In the life of Elijah the prophet, there came a time when he was forced to flee and hide in the wilderness on the east side of the Jordan River (1 Kings 17:1-6). This occurred at the very beginning of the period in which Elijah figured so prominently in the story of Israel, the northern kingdom. The Lord sent Elijah to speak to King Ahab about his wickedness in the mode of a drought. Elijah, having accomplished that task, was then instructed by the Lord to go into hiding. Specifically, he was to go into hiding in the valley of the brook, or ravine, called Kerith. During his time in hiding, the Lord instructed him, he was to remain completely secreted. God would send ravens to feed him and he was to drink from the water in that valley.

Elijah complied with the instructions of the Lord and headed for the ravine to hide. During the time Elijah hid in the ravine, the ravens brought him bread and meat twice a day and he drank water from the brook. Eventually, the water in the brook dried up due to the drought. Only then did Elijah move on to live among the Sidonians, who were a Phoenician group that lived north of the boundary of the kingdom. As long as the water lasted, probably at least a year, the ravens faithfully brought food to Elijah. It was the end of the water that caused him to move on. The ravens remained faithful to the charge to which the Lord had put them.

Interestingly, the first creature to issue forth from the ark of Noah was a raven (Genesis 8:6-7). The specific reason for which Noah sent out the raven is not known. We may assume the raven was sent to find out something. The raven apparently did not return to the ark. Apparently it pursued its mission until land appeared on which it could light.

It turns out that my first name, Corbett, is derived from the Latin word corvus, which means “raven.” I am one who seeks out the truth in the mysteries of scripture. It is my delight to present such truth in the form of food to the body of Christ. In this time, there is a grace of enlightenment with respect to things that have lain dormant, perhaps for centuries. It is time for those who operate under such a grace to seek out such treasures and bring them to light for the value they have for the saints.

Hence, the name “Raven’s Food.” It is meant to refer to the action of God to cause ravens to serve the needs of the man of God in the wilderness. The ravens were faithful to that purpose as long as God blessed the purpose. They simply did as they were assigned by the Creator. It is my purpose to find and to bring to light certain food that has been relegated to obscurity for quite a while now. Raven’s Food is the vehicle for that activity.

Raven’s Food will produce written analyses of various obscure topics in scripture. Hopefully this will be valuable by enabling folks to approach biblical material that has been neglected or considered too difficult in the past. I believe that the Spirit of God is quite capable to push back the veil and allow you and I to see truth. As we progress, other media such as audio and video may also be used in this effort. We hope the truth brought to light will be made easier to access through a combination of media that enables anyone to grasp the various topics to be uncovered.

Soon, the first of the written works will be produced. This will be a study of the lives of the Old Testament patriarchs in two volumes using a very new paradigm of discovery. There is much hidden in these lives that we can use now to help us understand the will of God in the times in which we live.

Once we have produced these basic works, we will be sensitive to the leading of the Spirit in the discovery of various supplements that are useful to the saints. In this way, this Raven’s Food will be living and can be brought forth as we continue the truth journey.
